The Toolman website is the online presence of an established Sheffield company specialising in fine hand tools. The initial brief was simple :

"Having had a site for 10 years, it was a cgi site, we saw hits plummet from around 120 a day to around 50. I was just wondering what you could do in the way of a bit of tweeking, SEO and tidying up our site www.toolman.co.uk"

The original Actinic v9 site was a default theme straight from the box - early discussions realised a whole new design incorporating SEO features was the way forward. The design brief was for something warm to compliment the specialist wood working hand tools BUT not a burnt wood effect.

The site was upgraded to Actinic v10 at the same time and professionally shot photos were taken of all the hand tools and accessories. The quality of the images is an integral part of the site and a lightbox effect was introduced to show the tools in closer detail.

After going live the Alexa site rankings have jumped from 2,643,941 up to to an impressive 1,341,208. The jump in ranking (due to the quality of the SEO) has directly translated into additional sales and quoted by the site owner :

"You've only just under doubled sales by my reckoning, not complaining but stuff I've never sold before too. ie 3 inch bent scraper, only had a few in stock, sold the last wholesale 2 weeks ago, never even thought of 'out of stock'ing them on the site. I can't even find a replacement apart from a company in Canada!! THEN 2 hours later I got another order for the same scraper for five of them!!!"
